Delicacies of Society

Art In June (AIJ) presents “Delicacies of Society” – The term “Delicacies of Society” refers to the very thing creatives are. They are delicate pearls of wisdom and exquisite talent who are at times fragile beings who may have encountered trauma, or pain, yet have resiliently risen to produce strength, beauty and perseverance as their super power.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) adolescents aged 12-17 years in 2018-2019 reported 15.1% had a major depressive episode, 36.7% had persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, 4.1% had a substance use disorder, 1.6% had an alcohol use disorder, 3.2% had an illicit drug use disorder, 18.8% seriously considered attempting suicide, 15.7% made a suicide plan, 8.9% attempted suicide, and 2.5% made a suicide attempt requiring medical treatment.

These statistics which are of a delicate nature, yielded the name Delicacies of Society. Delicacies of Society will amplify exhibitions inclusive of artist interviews, health professionals, literature, reels, artwork (live, still, choreographed),across various genres of the arts. The purpose of the exhibit is to highlight, educate and explore how creatives enter the creative process amidst the mental challenges they may face as they create their end product with confidence.
